Well, I’m sitting at 33k for my NaNo book, and I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to hit 50k by midnight Sunday. My arm is still sore and my doctor has told me to take it easy. I’ve only been writing a bit here and there, trying not to push things. In fact, I’ve barely been on my computer at all.
So if I actually want to make the goal, I’ll have to write approximately 2,500 words everyday this week. Doable for me easily under normal circumstances. This week? I’m not sure. I’m down, but not out yet. We’ll have to see if I can pull it off.
I’ve been doing some reading, seeing as I haven’t been writing very much. Right now I’m totally fascinated with Doctor Who: A Writer’s Tale. It is a series of emails on the planning, writing, rewriting, and all out creative process of Russell T Davies, the creative force behind Doctor Who. You don’t have to like the show (though it really helps), to appreciate what RTD goes through as a writer. I have to say, it made me feel a lot better about my own creative process, seeing some of the things he goes through. Funny enough, he uses music to help him write the same way I do to help me focus when I’m trying to pin down a story or character. I’m not completely finished the book, but it’s a lot of fun.
How was your weekend? Anything fun and exciting happen?

Ah C… you must be very disappointed
On the other hand, by writing a bit slower and taking the time to watch tv, read, etc… you’re recharging your energizer-bunny batteries.
Don’t beat yourself up, enjoy those other pursuits (without feeling guilty!) and rest that arm!
personal note- any news yet?
I’m so sorry to hear about the arm. I haven’t been on the computer much because of headaches and yaking.
I’m feeling better though, trying to finish off the edits to that full so I can send it off. It’s driving me crazy and I know if it’s off my desk I’ll feel so much better.
Wylie! That’s so mean! “Any news yet?” can mean C’s pregnant or she’s sold and either one gets me fidgety to know the deets.
Christine: I know you’re disappointed about NaNo but really I think NaNo is more to push those authors who have never finished a manuscript to get off their butts. You’ve been VERY productive and considering your workload, I think 33K in 3 to 3 1/2 weeks is still a worthy accomplishment. So don’t beat yourself up about it too much.
Christine, I officially threw in the towel for NaNo on Friday. I’m barely at 10,000 words! I can relate. I had the flu this month – I didn’t write a word for days. Then when I pushed myself to write, after a hard session I’d have 600 words to show for it. I hate not crossing that finish line.
That book on writing sounds fascinating. I’d better not go looking for it…
Hope your arm gets better soon. I just bought a book on ballet this weekend, and there’s a whole section that deals with dancer injury. As you can probably relate, dancers always want to get back to dancing too early. But the longer the rest, the earlier back onstage.
Whatever you finish is awesome and certainly only getting you ahead for your next release. Don’t risk your arm or your health!
I love you all!!
Leah, I’ll fill you in at the Christmas meeting.
But I’m not preggers…baby factory is sooooo closed.
And yeah about NaNo. I talked to my hubby who put it into perspective for me…again. It’s not worth the pain. And the book is the last one in my Eternal Bonds series, so I don’t want to rush it either. HUGS!
