Okay, I’m the first to admit I’m pretty forgiving when it comes to the TV shows I watch. I’ll let them get away with just about anything as long as:
1. The characters are interesting and have a solid reason for acting a particular way, or doing a particular thing
or
2. The plots are well written and keep me guessing, despite flawed characters.
I think being a writer has ruined certain shows for me, or at the very least, has made me impatient when it comes to the absence of the above two points. Hence why I’ve officially given up on Heroes.
I mean…COME ON!! I loved this show first season. Adored it! Now, I’m so annoyed with it, the thought of spending an hour in front of the TV isn’t justifiable. They’ve changed the characters, INCONSISTENTLY! They have so many plot threads, and so many loose ones from last season, that nothing makes sense. I can’t care about a character that I won’t get to see for more than a few minutes each episode, and have them change radically.

As a writer, this is something that I try really hard not to do. I love a good complex plot. I try to write them. I may not be the most brilliant author out there, but I try to at the very least be consistent.
So I’m taking a lesson from Heroes as I’m working on book two of my urban paranormal series. I’m keeping track of all the plot points I started in book one. I’ll make sure they are all resolved by the end of book six. This is my promise to you!
Now I just have to sell them…
