Summer Goals and an Announcement!

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I know I did…even if my hubby has been away and I miss him. Yes, I know…I’m sad, but I’ve grown rather attached to the fella.

I’ve been doing a lot of writing and reading recently, but not making a lot of progress on my books. I’ve been lax on my goals and what I hope to accomplish. Basically, I’ve been slacking off. So it’s time to give myself a kick in the ass to get myself going again. With the RWA Nationals coming up, I want to make sure I have stuff ready to go.

Okay, so goals for the summer…

I have two main things I want to accomplish:

1. Finish book for in the Eternal Bond series - The Bond That Saves Us

2. Start (and hopefully finish) book two in my urban paranormal series.

If I can get those two things done by September 1st, I’ll be a very happy camper.  So I have to start making myself do regular writing on both of these stories. And despite thinking I don’t have time to do it this week, I need to.

Goal for this week - write 5000 words on The Bond That Saves Us

And what was that announcement….?

Well, some of the details are still being worked out, but I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve been asked to write a serialized science fiction / fantasy story for a new magazine! Currently they are scheduled to launch the magazine, called Massive Gamer, this summer at Comic Con in San Diego. There is a chance that I’ll be going to be part of the launch (handing out stuff and the like), but I’m not sure yet.

My story is called Fractured Planes, and deals with three planet/time/universe hopping people, who get pulled together to help save the day. Each “story” will be about six issues in length, making two complete stories a year. I’ll be publishing under my other pen name, Christine Rafe. I’ll keep you posted on the details. :D

I am NOT…

…going to talk about last night’s episode of Doctor Who. I’m NOT going to do that because Amy and my husband will kill me. Neither of them have seen it yet…

I’m not…going…to talk about…how….awesome….

*clamps both hands over her mouth and goes running to bury her head under a pillow to scream*

Wall-E

I just got back from taking my girls to the theatre to see Wall-E. I love Pixar…simply adore every movie they’ve ever made. Now I’ve been known to get emotional while watching these (yes, I’ve cried at a kids movie!) and this one was no exception.

My seven year old daughter said it best when she said out loud in a quiet part of the film,”Well, this is a funny romance.”

Who knew!

Its a very sweet movie for kids, funny and sweet. There is also a very powerful message about the environment, and how we live our lives. There is lots of comedy and action for the kids too. Nothing cruel or mean at all. I highly recommend this one.

I want…

Woohoo!! Sold All Bottled Up!

Oh I’m doing the happy dance here people! I just found out that I sold my light paranormal All Bottled Up to Samhain. The contract is in the mail and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that this one will be making it out there for you to read. I love this one

It’s the story of Viola, a call center worker from Halifax who wins a trip to Mexico. She stumbles upon a genie in a bottle and then proceeds to make her wishes - she wants Jerod to teach her how to seduce a man.

Of course our poor three thousand year old genie doesn’t count on falling in love with his new master. And fun was had by all!

Some Times I’m Really Sad…

So we were watching Doctor Who this weekend…and I got all excited about the last five minutes of the show. I practically jumped from my bed when two little words were spoken…I even said them out loud because I knew it was coming. My husband (of course) laughed at me because I was so silly.

I’m not going to go into specifics in case people haven’t seen it yet. But man…I was so excited…and then I saw the preview for next week and I’m just dying. I’m not going to last until Saturday. *sob*

It really is sad how addicted to Doctor Who / Torchwood I’ve become. So I’m mixing it up a bit. Hubby bought season one of Supernatural for us to start soon. We’ll mix this in with our re-watching of Buffy and pray it gets me through the summer TV lull.

I’ve also been reading a lot…not writing quite as much. It’s been good for me actually. I’m plucking away at The Bond That Saves Us, and liking what I have so far. No, I won’t be writing this one in six weeks, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing either.

This weekend we had my youngest daughter’s seventh birthday party and my anniversary. My poor husband has put up with me for 12 years now (god love him). Thankfully, I think he’s agreed to renew my contract for another year. :D

We bought Rock Star for the Wii and played that a bit yesterday. Oh man, it is FUN!!

How was your weekend?

I want to work HERE!

OMG Dave Matthews Band Concert!!!!

Some days I love my evil day job (henceforth known as EDJ)! I was sitting in my cube yesterday and around 3:00pm a fellow manager came up to me and asked if I wanted two free tickets to the Dave Matthews Band concert in Toronto.

OMG YES!!!!

So at 4:00pm I’m dropping my girls off at a friend’s house (who is the best person in the world for doing that last minute!!) and off I went with my husband to TO.

Now, my husband has seen Dave and band in concert twice before, but this was my first time. OMG Wow! Just WOW. What a phenomenal concert. They are all fantastic singers, musicians and performers. The Molson Amphitheatre is an amazing venue for bands too. We were on the lawn (I’ve never done drugs in my life, but I think I got high from all the weed being smoked around me), and were in full sight of the band and the screens.

My ears are still ringing, but it was worth every lost bit of my hearing. If you ever get an opportunity to see these guys in concert….GO!

:D

Here’s something scary

I’m actually thinking about plotting out The Bond That Saves Us.

Now anyone who knows me at all as a writer, knows I don’t plan a thing. Nothing. Have no clue what I’m doing until I actually start typing. So far it’s worked really well. Written twelve novels that way. So, why (I can hear you asking yourself this) does she want to plot now?

It comes down to energy levels. I’m tired from all the different commitments in my life. And I think if I plot out the book, it will make the flow go a lot easier. So, I’m going to try it. I’ll let you know how I make out.

Oh! And I bought an e-book reader. It’s beautiful…and I think I have to return it. All of my e-books are in PDF format. This reader doesn’t zoom in enough for me to actually read the text! I’m so upset because the reader is beautiful.

If anyone has any suggestions on a good reader, let me know!

Oh what a beautiful morning…

Good Monday morning everyone! The sun is shinning, the birds are singing…and I’ve started a new writing project! Thank you to everyone who offered their suggestions last week. It really did help me to focus myself and get organized.

Officially on the weekend I started writing The Bond That Saves Us, book four in my Eternal Bond series. Oh it felt good to get back there. And of course I’m starting this one off with a bang. Lots of action, shouting, yelling, sexy men…

*sigh*

I’m really excited about this one.

I’ve also been continuing to work on another project  that I am just dying to tell you all about. But again, no contract in hand yet, so I have to wait. It’s killing me!!!

I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day yesterday. We had a BBQ  and my husband enjoyed a pile of homemake Long Island Iced Tea. I got to sit back, watch and giggle. :D

And of course we had the mid season finale of Battlestar Galactica. Okay, what’s up with this?? Mid season finale…and we don’t get the last ten episodes until January 2009?!?! That’s not a mid season people. That’s a NEW season. *grumbles*

How was your weekend? Do anything exciting?
