Solitary Job
I was on a roll last night with my writing. The funny thing was it was midnight and I wasn’t even tired. I had to force myself to go to bed. As I made my way upstairs, I realized that the reason I was doing so well was because everyone else was asleep.
I don’t seem to be able to find my writing groove unless I’m alone. Or doing a writing challenge with Amy, Susan, or whoever else happens to be around.
I’ve never considered myself a solitary person, but I’m starting to think that maybe my personality is changing slightly because of my writing. I like having that head time to pull the ideas out and concentrate on my little land of make believe.
Any other writers out there feel the same? What about readers? Do you need that alone time with your books?

Absolutely!
But I really like writing with you guys.

I must have time alone to read. I love it when I have the energy to stay up for an hour after everyone else has gone to bed, or I manage to get up an hour early.

I work in a very hectic place where I’m surrounded by people all the time. So when I get home, which I like to call my “fortress of solitude,” I enjoy loneliness a lot. It makes doing anything, from taking a bath to reading, much more enjoyable because I can do it a leisure pace.

I can’t write or read without absolute peace. Which is why I probably won’t finish a novel until my kids are in college

It’s also why I’m always so dang tired… I need some quiet downtime every night — whether it’s spend reading, writing or watching television, so I’m always the last person to go to bed (and why I always have bags under the eyes!)

I definitely write better, and more, when I’m alone. But I do get a lot done at our write-ins. I also write better in the morning. Once the afternoon hits, I’m toast.

I need the peace and quiet to write too. The only time I seem to be able to overcome that is when we do the write-ins at Starbucks and Nikki is cracking her whip! Although even then, it isn’t my best writing, more like writing down the bones - the flesh and sinew will be added later.

I think that since I’m pulled in so many directions by work, kids, other committments and distractions, that when I read and/or write, I strive for quiet time. The TV is off, everything. I guess I consider reading and writing my down time and I like the peace and quiet.

I’m a very solitary writer. I don’t even let my husband read my work until I’ve got it polished.
And I love having quiet time, both to write and to read.
