Deep Breath

Well, this week is off to a fast start already. Yesterday I started work on a second project, and I have to say that I’m super excited about it. I can’t say too much at this point, but I promise to bring you up to speed on it soon. It does mean that my writing on my urban paranormal will be slowed down a bit, but not by much.

I didn’t manage to get up to write this morning due to some gee-I-feel-crappy issues, but I plan on doing an hour tonight when I get home from work. My writing goal for this week is to get at least 6000 words written on my urban para. I’m making good head way on the story, which is definitely taking me in different directions as a writer. I hope it turns out the way I hope it will.

This weekend we got the girls’ hair cut and got them ready for school. My husband is excited to have his house back to himself. While he does work from home, it’s hard to get anything done with two kids bouncing around (as a lot of you out there know).

So what were you up to this weekend?

Fab Friday

Who knew that the past three days could feel longer than the previous two weeks? I’m so happy it’s Friday! :)

I’ve been working my way back into my writing routine after having been “on vacation” for the past month. My alarm has been set for 6am rather than 5:30 and I seem to be getting just as much done. Well, up to a point. My word count has been lower than I can do, sitting at just over 2000 words for the past three mornings, but I’m not too upset by that. I haven’t been able to write at lunch or at night either, so its not really a bad word count.

Tonight my husband and I will be watching the last two episodes of season two of Dexter. OMG that show rocks! They’ve got him painted into a corner and I can’t wait to see how they get him out…if they do at all. After we’re caught up on those, it’s on to season four of Stargate: Atlantis.

So much TV, so little time. :D

I’m also going to try and get some more writing done this weekend, but I’m not going to push it too much. The NFL play offs start and I plan on watching quite a bit of football.

What are your plans for this weekend?

Thursday Thirteen

Since I posted my goals yesterday, today I thought I’d share with you some of the things I do to try and keep myself motivated to meet those goals.

1. Not give up when the going gets tough. I can be such a wimp at times. Time for me to grow a backbone!

2. Get my hubby to give me a kick now and again. He’s very good at this and helps me more than I can tell you.
3. Use my friends for support. You know I love you all. :D

4. Look at each day as a fresh start. It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday, today I can change things.

5. Have my kids motivate me. My kids are fantastic for this. It also helps to play with them or just sit and watch TV.

6. Revisit my goals. It’s easy to get down on yourself. I like to check in to see how I’m actually doing with my goals.

7. Exercise to regain my focus. I always feel a hundred times better when I exercise. It helps me focus and that helps my writing.

8. Get lots of sleep. I’m up early and stay up late. This does eventually catch up to me. :D
9. Know when to walk away. If I’m getting frustrated, I need to clue in and know when to let something sit for a while.

10. Take breaks. I don’t do this enough.
11. Adjust goals if necessary. Sometimes I set lofty goals and don’t realize just how lofty they are. I need to adjust them and not try to kill myself meeting them.

12. Accept small victories. So I didn’t write 1500 this morning. I got up and wote 500. That’s still more than I had.

13. Cut myself some slack. I’m my own worst critic. I need to just chill out sometimes.

So what are some of the things you do?

2008 Goals

Anyone who has been reading my blog for a while knows I’m big on setting goals for myself. In 2007, I actually made great headway towards what I was hoping to accomplish for myself. So, to keep me honest, I thought I’d post what I want to do for 2008. So here we go!

  • Submit All Bottled Up to at least four print houses this year
  • Submit to at least four agents this year. Pitch to an agent at RWA Nationals
  • Finish writing book one of my urban paranormal in time to pitch it at RWA Nationals
  • Write book four in my Bond series
  • Write at least three additional books for EC
  • Spend at least 90 min a day on my writing career. This could be actual writing, editing, critiquing other people’s material, and/or marketing

Apparently, I’m going to be busy. :D So what are you hoping to get done in 2008?
