Christmas Thursday Thirteen
For this weeks Thursday Thirteen I thought I’d share my thirteen favourite Christmas carols. I hope you enjoy these.
*Just for Kelly, here is the South Park version.
2. Silent Night
3. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen By Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLaughlin
*I wish I could find a better version of this.
5. So This is Christmas By John Lennon
10. Mary’s Boy Child By Boney M
* My Dad had this tape when I was a kid and we listened to it over and over. To this day it doesn’t feel like Christmas for my until I hear this song!
11. Feliz Navidad By Boney M
*Ditto!!
12. Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer
13. Oh, Come, Oh, Come Emmanuel
* I’ve saved this for last because it’s my favourite Christmas song. This version from Boyz 2 Men is awesome.

I like Cartman’s version of O Holy Night he did on South Park. A classic…
December 19th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
OMG Yes, Kelly!! I should put that link up too….

I farted on Santa Claus lap???? LOL!!
I love BNL and Loreena Mckennit … but no Happy Elf by Harry Connick Jr.?
Or the Elf’s Lament by BNL???
I did Christmas movies, not specials, movies.

It’s funny Amy, I was sitting here trying to think of some of my favourites and I was drawing a blank! I love Harry Connick too!
December 19th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Okay, Amy didn’t know the farting song, either. I feel better. I was worried there for a second, like I’d missed out on some HUGE part of our culture.
Maybe I did; I’ve never heard that BareNaked Ladies song, either.
Happy TT and Merry Christmas, my friend!
December 19th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
I love Carol of the Bells when sung in a choir, and most of the really dark, minor chord carols like God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen and We Three Kings. But then, I dig somber composers too!
December 19th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
A few of these I like very much indeed…
Have a great TT, and a very Merry Christmas!
December 19th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
To think there was a time that singing these tunes was considered subversive. I like your list.
December 19th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I love Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer! And Nicole (Bookwyrm Knits) a week or two ago had Twelve Pains of Christmas — hilarious! Happy TT!

I like this version of Little Drummer Boy and O Come Emmanuel is one of my favorites.

Oh Holy Night and Ave Maria by Stevie Wonder are beautiful and I listen to them as much as possible this time of year.
Happy TT

I love all kinds of Christmas music, including all these, except #6, which I’ve never heard–I’ll have to come back when I can listen–it’s going to be on my mind all day until I do.

December 20th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Josh Groban… (sigh) I could listen to him all day every day. And So This Is Christmas — wow, I love that song, but it makes me teary.

#3 fantastic. They did a version with the Boston Pops which was near perfect. It just was lacking Sarah
December 21st, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Got to this a bit late, but you know I loves me some Christmas music! South Park version of ‘O Holy Night’ is hysterical. But not as funny as Mr. Garrison’s ‘Merry F**king Christmas’… I thought I was going to die from laughter when I saw that one.
December 21st, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Boney M is awesome. Just the title of I farted…makes me giggle.
My TT was about the solstice this week.
