Manic Monday

Well I have a very busy week ahead. I found out last week that I got a promotion at my day job. That means I have to move my family again…and in a relatively short time frame. So we’re cleaning, packing and house hunting, all while working, writing and doing school stuff with my girls. My husband has been busy finishing the fourth bedroom in the basement so things will show well.

Now I just need someone to buy my house. :D

Having finished my submission for EC’s Caveman series, I’m ready to keep the momentum going and want to dive into another book. So I have my urban paranormal with me today and I plan on giving what I have done a good read over at lunch. (Amy, the song was Prayer by the band Disturbed)

Some people have asked me why I don’t take breaks in between writing projects. The answer is simply - I can’t. My brain races at 10,000 miles an hour. The busier I am, the more it races. I find by writing my stories, it helps me focus on just one thing (instead of the 20 that I have going on), and takes my stress level down a few notches. The more stressed I am, the faster I write.

Considering I’ve written 2 novellas, co-authored a novel, and wrote another novel, I’ve had a stressful year. :D

  • Congrats on the job promotion! *throws confetti* Sorry to hear it’s causing so much stress though.

  • I’m the same way Christine. Writing helps me decompress from everything going on around me. I’ve completed 1 90k novel, 2 70k novels, two novellas, and two short stories this year….if that gives you a clue on how stressful this year has been over here. Lol. But things have been slowing down a bit since mid-summer when Princess finally stopped testing my limits daily.

Congrats on the promotion!! That’s fabulous. Are you moving anywhere exciting?

  • Whoorah about the day job promotion! That’s fantastic :) Hope the move and the packing (etc. on all the stress that comes with that) goes smoothly for you all. And man…I need to get to work – you’ve gotten so much done. :D Best of luck!

  • Anna – wow!! I think we need to get together for a chocolate feast to de-stress. :D I’ll be moving just outside of Toronto, so a lot of very cool things there.

Bri, I hope I survive the move. I tend to stress big time over the details of a move, and generally drive my poor husband insane. I hope this is the last one.

    Thanks Tempest!!

  • Good luck getting your house sold quickly and finding the perfect place to live in Waterloo.

Congrats once again on the promotion.

  • Congrats on the promotion. I am so excited you’re moving to closer to mois and Wylie.

I just need about a week of down time before I start again, but ya I totally get the helps with stress. I’m the same way. Since it took me three years to write my first ever complete manuscript I’d say my stress level is increasing too. LOL.

  • Wah! Boo hoo! I’ll miss you!!!
But congratulations about your job, Christine! I’m not surprised at all. They are so lucky to have you.

  • “This is the way I pray…”

LOVE that song. Really had a huge impact on me.

Well, congrats on the promotion and if you’ll be closer to Amy and Wylie, so much the better.

As for taking a break with your writing, why the hell should you? Be as prolific as you can be. You won’t get rusty that way — and will probably continue to improve. We all improve the more we write; there’s no insult meant. I trust you know that.

  • I hear you Susan! In fact, I was talking to Red about that very thing this morning. I do actually see huge improvements in my writing with every completed manuscript. I guess that’s important to keep in mind for all writers.

  • Christine,
Congrats on the promotion. You astound me. I can barely pat my head and rub my tummy at the same time LOL!
    I’ve written 3 60+k novels, 1 29k novella and one really short silly 5k this year…but the only child in the house is my husband, and writing is all I do {well other than blogging, hanging out at divas and playing little word games on the computer}
Guess I need to kick it up a bit to keep up with you and Anna :)

  • Hey that’s true too. From my first to my present ya I see huge differences

  • Congrats! I hope the move is not too far, or at least the rest of the family aint whining.

It seems that alot of you writers I wander across in the blogosphere seem to be writing machines.

  • I think your speediness is awesome! I wish I could write that fast.
Good luck with the house hunt and sale! And Congratulations on the promotion!

  • I, too, bow to your productivity. Whatever God you pray to is doing you right, girl!
Looking VERY FORWARD to having you closer, and back amongst the TRW.
“Excuse me, can I get another Bellini over here?”

    See you November!!

  • christine – looking forward to being able to put a face to the name! i am always interested in talking to people after the monthly meetings, preferably over some therapeutic calories.

  • Wow, Christine! You’ve been busy during the last couple of weeks. Congrats on the promotion and I hope the sale of your house happens quickly. There’s nothing more stressful than moving house. For me, anyway. Good luck with your Cavemen story. I’ve just sent mine off – about three minutes ago.

I hear you about needing to write. I don’t generally take breaks between projects because I need to write. It’s a compulsion. Although I did manage not to write on my recent holiday. To compensate I plotted in my head. The brain never stops ticking over about story “what ifs”

  • Congrats on the promotion and the submission–although I don’t envy you having to move.

  • Congrats on the promotion! I’d buy your house (I’m just starting to see what I can afford around here) but I think my commute would be a tad prohibitive (I live in Eastern Virginia). Good luck selling the house and moving.

  • Congrats on the promotion. Are you happy about the move? Is it someplace you like or are interested in living? I hope so. And I hope you have luck selling the house. I know the market is tough right now, so sending you lots of positive vibes!

I know what you mean too about taking a break. The mind never stops does it? But I do like to use a little downtime between projects to catch up on reading. I don’t like to read while I’m writing. I find it hard to. So when I’m done I dig in.

  • Breaks? We’re allowed to take breaks??

I’m sorry to see you moving so far away from us, but at least we can meet up in blogland through the week!

  • Wow! I’m so looking forward to meeting you in person, but I sure don’t envy you that move. I found moving across town difficult enough. And each time I vow I’m NEVER moving again. But even so … squeee!!!

  • So excited you’re moving back to Ontario, Christine!
