Summertime
I love summer. I love everything about it. I even love it when I get too hot to sleep at night and end up laying there awake. The weather in my neck of the woods has been great for the most part the last few days. I’ve noticed my energy levels rise and I’ve been feeling better.
I always find I’m a more productive writer in the summer than the winter. I can take my laptop outside and write while my kids are playing. There must be something about the sun that get my creative synopsis firing full steam ahead. This is a good and bad thing.
Good because I get lots of writing done. ![]()
Bad because I can’t focus on my day job.
I know the weather has a major impact on a lot of people. Do you find you are more productive as a writer in the summer or winter? Or would you rather be outside playing?

I definitely feel more motivated when the sun is out. Winters are tough for me and every year I keep thinking I should get one of those lamps people with SAD use.
LOL My hubby and I are already discussing retirement and where we want to live in the winters. He’s leaning towards Arizona, but I’m happy anywhere that’s warm. His parents live in Florida in the winter and they always come back to Canada refreshed. It doesn’t help that our summers are so short either.

I’d always rather be outside playing… in the summer that is.
I could skip winter altogether and be much happier.

eh day job, who needs a stinking day job.
the sun and warm weather attracts me outside always. The mind wanders to the things I could be doing.

I love summer, winter does make me extra tired. Spring and summer rejuvenate me. I can’t wait to be at the beach and be in my garden playing with the chillins. Summer also means GWEN STEFANI!!!!

I’ll let you know when I’ve been writing consistently long enough to tell.

I feel much more energetic during the summer, and I REALLY need that energy now. I’ve been stuck with several WIPS for 2 months now and it gets frustrating!
Those cold days that make you stay inside sometimes do have a bit of charm and inspiration, but yes, I’d go with you, Christine. Sun IS our lifesource after all! =)

I write more in the summer because it is too hot to go outside. Las Vegas in summer is not somewhere you would risk meltdown of you or your laptop by writing out of doors. Love my air conditioning. Winter is great here, but when it is 90F at night, use your imagination what it is like in the daylight…not me outside.
I love blogs showing all the green gardens, shade trees. Shade tree envy.

I’m the type of person that feels all comfy on a rainy day, when I’m inside. I probably get the most done on those days.

Oh, definitely things are better in summer. I’m with Annette about SAD - I suffer from it. I LOVE taking my laptop out onto the patio and writing. And you’ll notice that my word count has gone WAY WAY up. Even cloudy days make a difference. I hate heat at night, but I use it - that’s when my imagination gets going. I’ve even been known to get up at 1 or 2 a.m. to write down a story.
And ignoring my job? Well, I’m home all day, so yeah, the housework suffers. Anything to ignore housework

I’m not writer, but I find I can do things much better in summer. I usually read books in the summer, since most TV shows are re-run until the next fall. So summer is the best time for me to catch up on my reading AND do other stuffs that I been delayed for so long *grin*
Hope you have a nice day

I think I’m most productive in the spring and fall actually. My office is the worst-insulated room in the house, so in the summer, I’m hot, and in the winter, I’m cold. I also do better when it’s sunny outside. I love the rain, but when I’m writing it sort of dims my spirits. Go figure.

I don’t like to be hot, it saps my energy and I don’t like to do anything but find an airconditioned bar.

Hi Jackie! It’s great to see a new face joining us.
Anne I get the whole saps the energy thing. I tend to do a lot of my writing either in the morning or at night, so it’s usually cool enough that I don’t mind.
Angela, my office is in the basement so I know how you feel. My husband and I actually call it the dungeon hehe!
As for the rest of you, Sangria at my place by the pool!

I don’t think the seasons affect me so much as just the monthly hormone flux. Ugh. I lose about a week of hard writing every month, and the week coming out is slow.

I don’t need sun every day, but the month of april this year almost killed me. Okay, I’m being a little melodramatic, but I was so pleased when the sun finally came out. But I’m not much on the heat. In a month I’ll be complaining it’s too hot to work. PERFECT right now though.
