What to do, what to do…

I feel like I’m in super hyper mode for some reason. I’ve made some really good progress writing wise this week. I finished my first draft of the Halloween story. Renee and I still need to go through and make sure everything fits nicely, but with only a little tweaking I think we’re mostly done. We’ll submit it to our editor either late next week or early the following.

My Duke’s story is coming along as well. I’ve gotten a good start on chapter 2, and will be diving hard into that this weekend. My goal is to get it mostly written. I’ve started this chapter off from his POV and I’m finding the switch interesting. Not wanting to give it too much of a historical feel, but trying not to use modern phrasing with him. He’s the opposite of my heroine. It’s a great challenge, I just hope I can pull it off.

I also want to start the novella I have planned for the Brava contest. I’ve been pulling my hair out because the idea I had, quite frankly, sucked eggs. But I think I came up with a better one last night when I was at the grocery store. People were looking at me funny so I must have been smiling.

So now I’m not really sure what I want to focus on this weekend. Tweaking of the halloween story, finsh chapter 2 of the duke, or start the novella. *sigh*

Of course all of my writing plans are being pushed off until I can get home tonight and finish Robin L. Rotham’s Alien Overnight. I sat down last night after some running around (I had to make 5-layer dip for a potluck at work today) and started the book. I really didn’t want to go to sleep, but I had no choice. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS?!?! ARRR!! So I’m not writing a word until I can read the rest of the book. :)

This weekend will be busy on the family front too. My oldest has an under eight soccer team try out. We’ll see how she makes out. Then on Sunday both the girls have an end of year event for Girl Guides. So lots of running around.

What are you folks up to?

  • Soccer games are so much fun! I hope she does well!

I’m looking forward to the nice long holiday weekend… and maybe a pool day if it doesn’t rain on monday…

  • I’m planning on sinking a wad of money into retaining walls. :( Lots of work ahead.

  • man, you are on a creative roll.

Pirates 3 sometime this weekend and a picnic at the In Laws Monday, so plans but not plans

  • My plans include Shrek, writing, washing floors and gearing MY kid up for the Under 8 soccer league — which my dh just volunteer to coach (Yipee, she says sarcastically knowing that she too will get sucked in and have even LESS time to write…)

Have a great, productive weekend, Christine!! And good luck to your oldest!

  • Alien Overnight is amazing, so yep, better finish that one first!!

And, well the duke story sounds very, very interesting. (I’m a sucker for dukes!), and your story with Renee sounds almost ready so starting on that Brava sounds wonderful! I just love that Kensington line… =)

  • I’ll be helping my parents out with their garden this week. They’re in their seventies and still think they can shovel dirt and mulch, move planters….

  • Hee, hee! I hear ya on smiling at the grocery store: that’s one of the weirdest, funniest things about being a writer. We’re walking around among the cabbage heads and onions, grinning from ear to ear as we listen to our characters talking to each other and cozying each other up, and people in the outside world are looking at us and our Chessie-cat grins and thinking, WTF?? LOL!

Sounds like you’re on a great roll! How exciting!

  • Ooh, good luck with the Duke, I’ll liked what I saw so far. Congrats on the Halloween story, and I hope your daughter has fun at soccer.

Besides writing I’m shopping for some new capris. Since my weightloss all my summer clothes are HUGE on me. I also want to get a great outfit for my upcoming GWEN STEFANI concert. :)

  • Pictures Amy!!! I NEED them. I so wish I was still in ON so I could go to that with you. *pout*

  • Very funny about your smiles in the grocery store/odd looks from others. Just one more aspect of life as writers know it, I think.

You seem like a thoroughbred waiting for the gate to open on the racetrack. Don’t hold back that kind of enthusiasm!

I’m going to go to a plant sale at the Cole Harbour Farm museum just around the block from us tomorrow morning – my mom and I have wanted to do that for the past 6 years, since we moved here, but it never worked out. This year we’re free! And lots of gardening. Don’t think I’ll be doing any writing.

  • Sounds nice and busy! I know I’m more productive when I’m more busy. Good luck!
