As you know I am going to a writers retreat with my RWA group this weekend. One of the things we will be doing is spending some time brainstorming some ideas for new stories. I have about six story lines (I wish I was kidding) bouncing around in my head and I was trying to narrow down to which one I’d like to explore.
Getting ideas for stories isn’t a problem of mine (yet). I’ll be driving along and a scene will pop into my head, an image, or even a premise. My problem is flushing that basic idea into a full fledged story. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to this weekend. The last time we did this I came up with the idea for All Bottled Up. I wrote that in six weeks and it’s sitting on my editor’s desk right now. If I’m lucky that will happen again.
On the writing front, I’m almost done chapter 3 of my Halloween story. I’m glad I took this past weekend off. I really needed the break and to recharge my batteries. My writing has come a lot easier this week as a result.
Tonight on TV is Criminal Minds. I can’t wait!
I have lots of ideas too – it’s just the hard work of actually getting in down into a coherent story that slows me down.
My problem at the last retreat was a total block as to where my story was headed. The brainstorming session – and the whole retreat, really – blasted my story back on track. At this retreat I need to work on my grasp of GMC. That’s your workshop! And I can’t wait for it. The creative vibe is strong for that weekend and I need to get as much of that as I can stand.
I could use a retreat!! My creative juices have been turned completely off this past week. I’m hoping for a small trickle tomorrow as I have a WHOLE HOUR to myself to write. I can’t wait!
Wylie hon, you’ve had a rough week. Take it easy and don’t be too hard on yourself. Maybe the TRW should plan a retreat too. I know we did a few years ago and it was big hit.
Stopping by at your new site! I LOVE YOUR NEW COVER BY THE WAY!!!!
I’ve had juices flowing but as soon as I write it down and reread it later I can’t help but think I totally suck.
LOL!
Red
Thanks Red! I was so thrilled when I saw it. Now I’m waiting on pins and needles for the release date. I can’t wait to hear when it’s coming out.
I think some of mystuff is stinky at first. But then once I work with it, it grows on me.
Sounds like it is just the thing you need. Good Luck with All Bottled Up – great story the little I read of it.
Ooh I could use a retreat as well.
I signed up for a story board course from the Celtic Hearts, about plotting out those story lines and at least getting a skeletal structure to go with. For a panster like me that’s a dream come true.
Good luck with All Bottled Up. I still love that popsicle line … hehehehe, that was great.
