St. Partick’s Day is Saturday!! I love this holiday and all the fun that’s around it. So for this week’s Thursday Thriteen I thought I’d take a look at…

1. Green. I know not everyone likes green, but I do. I look good in green! Probably has to do with my hazel eyes and hair colour, but gosh darn it you have to go with what works.
2. Shamrocks. I’ve always been fascinated with them ever since I was a kid. They’re very balanced and kind of look like hearts. I like that. Never found a four leaf one, but I’ll keep looking.
3. Party! It’s a great time of year to get together with friends for a party. You don’t even have to be Irish! Plus there’s no expectations of presents or baking. Bonus!
4. Leprechauns. Whenever I see a picture of a leprechaun I think of a looney toons cartoon with Porky Pig. He is staying at a hotel and gets terrorized by two leprechauns. Makes me laugh every time.
5. Beer. Now don’t think I’m a big beer drinker. I’m not. It makes me a bit sick actually. But once a year I feel obligated to pick up a mug and give a toast. Seems like the least I can do.
6. Kissing. Other than Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day seems to be a good one for kissing. Maybe it’s just my French husband compensating for something…not sure…not going to argue.
7. Faeries. I know it’s not as popular an icon as the Leprechaun, but there’s something wonderful about Faeries. Mysterious, deadly, and sensual all at the same time.
8. Irish Music. I grew up on the East Coast so Irish music has always been big in my house. I can even proudly admit to watching The Irish Rovers Sunday nights on CBC. And with that admission I’ve officially dated myself.
9. No Snakes. I always felt for Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. I hate snakes. Any Saint that managed to get rid of some of them is A-OK in my books.
10. Rainbows and Pots of Gold. I could use a pot of gold right about now. I could quit my day job and stay home and write all day! If you find one, please consider sharing.
11. Sense of Heritage. Being half Irish it really gives me a sense of belonging to something bigger when we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In our busy lives it’s not always something we consider, so the reminder is appreciated.
12. Taking with a bad accent. Okay, so I suck at the whole Irish accent thing. But come on! Everyone tries to do it. It’s fun!
13. Any excuse for fun! I’m a fun type of girl. I like to get together with friends and family to have a good time. This is one more reason to do it big!
Thank goodness for the TT–otherwise I’d have completely forgotten about St. Patrick’s Day. We’re going to Frankfurt on Saturday–wonder if they’ll dye the Main green. Somehow I can’t picture it. Not a whole lot of Irish here. Though there are Irish pubs. We’ll have to stop at one.
Jasus, Mary, & Johsuf…
I watched a bit ‘o Rovers meself as a tot!
I’m with you on the beer. As long as they don’t die it green.
Terrific Thursday Thirteen!
My TT is posted.
Have a wonderful day!
Happy TT’ing!

The only time I ever went out on St Patrick’s Day was last year.. It was fun, but the music was so loud and the place was so packed, I felt like a sardine… and claustrophobic. Never again, thanks!
Oh well, I’m not a fan of beer either..
There needs to be a holiday to give me an excuse to drink Starbucks all day.. THAT I would be down with.
I love St. Patty’s Day…but that’s cause I am Irish and can’t hide it…pale skin…red hair, etc. It’s a day all about me! *winks*
Enjoy the holiday and the fake accent…which I am horrible at as well…sadly the red hair doesn’t help with that!
My TT is up…come on over!!
I’m a fan of rainbows and pots o’gold too! Still looking for a Leprechaun to lead me to one, thought. LOL.
St. Paddy’s Day is big in our house, even though I’m only an eighth Irish. The night before, I leave gold chocolate coins for the kids to find in the morning. They’re old enough to know that a leprechaun didn’t leave them, but not old enough to want me to stop!
My oldest has asked to have green clothes for Sat. She wants to celebrate it so I bought *gasp* corned beef and cabbage to cook for dinner.
Crud, I forgot about St. Patty’s Day this Saturday. I guess I will try to wear green for TTN.
Hmm, which would match the TRW colours as well. Very interesting.
Do you remember the green milkshakes from McDonalds that they brought out around St. Patty’s day. I have a serious craving for one.
Already got my corned beef and will be getting some beer as well. My husband’s office mate used to throw huge St. Patrick’s day parties. Lots of alcohol and his niece would do some Irish dancing. Got to expensive.
I love corned beef and cabbage. What’s really sad is that my husband won’t eat it. So I bought some, but plan on making it the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, when he’s out of town and can’t complain about the smell or that I’m trying to force him to eat it!
I’m 1/4 Irish and love this holiday! And it’s big where I live with parades and all. I definitely plan on doing lots of celebrating this weekend.
And something I love that’s not on your list? Corned beef and cabbage! YUM!
Happy TT and Happy St. Patty’s Day!
Oh how could I leave corn beef and cabage off my list!! I love that stuff. Okay, now I know what we’re having for supper this weekend. *drool*
Great list. I’m not a beer fan, but I love green and Irish music, and who wouldn’t love a pot of gold. LOL!
Happy TT.
i love beer and kissing. What more do we need?
Green is an ok color I guess…. it’s never really been one of my favorites. However, since my family is Scottish we tend to jump right into the whole St. Patty’s day thing
The culture and the great feeling of friendship and fun that comes with it is just great… and it’s the only time it’s ok to drink green beer!
Cute List. The thirteeners seem to be looking forward to the Shamrock celebration and parades.
Great list! I remember that Porky Pig cartoon – I even remember being kinda scared by it when I was very little! LOL
I like St. Patrick’s Day. I have especially fond memories of college and drinking various green drinks for cheap (but not green beer, yuck).
I love your list! The Porky Pig cartoon was surely funny!
I was very facinated with Shamrocks as kid too. The shape of it and everything. And I never found a four leaf on either! I would need it for good luck
Great list! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Have great TTs and great day!
I have heard there’s a trick to finding the four leaf clovers: look for mutant patches of clover – funny colors, or odd size, etc., that is where the four leaf ones are. Sounds awfully scientific, but I have never succeeded either! Thanks for stopping by my TT!
OK, well I don’t look good in green but I agree with everything else! LOL
My good friend’s birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day. She’s very glad she wasn’t named Patty!
Thanks for visiting my TT!
Happy TT, Christine! LOVE the list; very creative. Yes, you deserve a pot of gold so you can stay home and write all day. Heck, we all do. (stay tuned for the West of Mars summer reading contest, where we’ll be throwing more love to more deserving authors)
I was in Boston on St. Pats Day years ago. the lines on the streets were green as was the beer! Are you doing Saturday? Good Luck
I can’t get this phrase out of my head now.
“Lucky Charms. They’re magically delicious!”
Green Beer has always turned me off — Yuck! No snakes are always good, as is kissing. Parties and any excuse for fun sound like an excellent excuse to observe St. Paddy’s day! And I keep looking for that danged pot of gold but all I keep finding is chocolate!
Kissing…beer… having fun! Yep, yep, yep! *lol*
Like any good canuck, I love beer. I do, however, despise the tradition of putting green food colouring in beer for St. Paddy’s day. Skip the green stuff and go for the real stuff – Harp or Guinness
I forgot to mention…
I’ve got a great picture of a rainbow the guys took out at CFB Wainwright on my desktop. I don’t think the porta-potty at the end of it is the type of “pot of gold” you’re looking for though!
Fun list!
I remember watching The Irish Rovers on CBC as well. In fact, my husband and I even have a CD of their music! I like the colour green, but not in beer.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good day!
We don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s over here, but I love Ireland. Have to find me an Irish pub this Saturday!
Thanks for visiting my handbag TT.
BEER!! MMMMM….I can’t remember the last time I had a taste. Two ore months to go and then I can indulge. If only they let you drink after pushing out a few pounds. I mean seriously, I think it is a cause to celebrate
I’ve seen some real live leprechauns and they can be pretty funny!
Enjoyed your TT. Mine is up and about why I love green!
