Book Review – Pleasure Prolonged

I’m going to start off by saying I’m completely biased with this review. Cathryn is a member of my RWA group and I think she’s just the best. That said I completely devoured her most recent book, Pleasure Prolonged. This is the second in the Pleasure Games series and it was very engaging. I laughed out loud more than once while I was reading it.

Erin Shay has worked her butt off as a research assistant working on the Pleasure Control (male anti arousal drug) program. She’s now given the opportunity to shine as the head of the Pleasure Prolonged project. She’s not about to let anything get in her way of earning a promotion and securing her future. The last thing she’s interested in is a serious relationship.

Kale Alexander has come to town to temporarily fill in for his friend Jay while he’s away on his honeymoon. Trying to move beyond a screw up at his last job that’s put him on probation, Kale hopes his rold on the Pleasure Prolonged project will straighten things out for him. The last thing either of them expected was the sudden attraction they felt while meeting at their friend’s wedding.

Now they are walking a thin line between sexual attraction, sexual adventure, and keeping their jobs.

I devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down! Cathryn’s blend of fast paced plot, humor, and highly charged sexual and sensual scenes had me turning the pages faster than blue blazes. I love Erin, who we meet in book one Pleasure Control. She is funny and strong, but still has that vulnerable edge to her. And Kale is just yummy. Who wouldn’t love a man who puts his partner’s pleasure ahead of his own! After reading this one, I guarantee you won’t look at elevator rides the same way again. This one goes on my keeper shelf!

Fun Friday

I found this wonderful little online program for you to play around with. You can make your own Valentine’s Day cake for a loved one and email it to them! Enjoy. :D

Ever have one of those nights…

Where you can’t sleep and your brain is churning out weird dreams? That was me last night. I don’t think I slept very much due to my cold, but hovered on the edge of light sleep. Some of the dreams I did have were down right disturbing. I remember I woke up a few times thinking to myself, “I can’t make that into a romance.” Very strange.

I didn’t get a lot of writing done this week, but I’m determined to get a bunch done this weekend. My goal for tonight is to finish revising chapter two of Perfect Match. Tomorrow I want to get through chapter three and four. With any luck I’ll get close to adding the 3k word count I was hoping for.

Since I’ve been revising I’ve come across some minor problems that I’ll now be able to fix. I really didn’t see these the first time around, so it worked out well for me to set this manuscript aside for a while. We’ll see how it turns out in the end. :)

Thursday Thirteen # 14

Because I’m not feeling 100% right now, I thought I’d do something nice and easy for my Thursday Thirteen this week. I also don’t have Mr. Linky working this week, so please leave your link in the comments section so I can come visit!

So in no particular order…

Thirteen Of Christine’s favourite Alpha Male Characters.

1. Mr. Darcy - Let’s get this one out of the way fast. In every reincarnation of this story, there’s just something about Darcy that I love. He’s stuck doing what he feels is the best for everyone else, and forgets to listen to his heart until the end.

2. Mr. Rochester - I think I love the brooding hero. Jayne’s innocence was the perfect foil for Rochester. Honour bound, he wanted to do the right thing for everyone, but in the end hurt himself.

3. The Phantom - The wounded soul. There have been some great books over the years that have tried to add to the Phantom’s back story, trying to explain what could drive a man with so much love to murder. The movie version of the play was awesome!

4. Han Solo - I love that he is a smart ass. Living by his own code it was fun to watch him bend his internal rules to try and do the right thing.

5. Indiana Jones - Okay, so I had a crush on Harrison Ford when I was a kid. Sue me! By Indy was awesome. I’m so excited for the next movie to come out next year. If I wasn’t sick I’d run around my room.

6. Batman - Batman has undergone some major changes in both the comics and in the movies over the years. I think Batman Begins really captured the essence of the character. Torn between wanting the life he was denied and needing to see justice served.

7. Jack Bauer - This season of 24 has been great for Jack’s character development. Though the storyline is a bit predictable, they have really worked on his character’s growth. Plus Kiefer is cute. :)

8. General Jack O’Neill - I think Jack is one of my favourite all time TV alpha males. From his relationship (or lack there of) with Carter, to the way he tries to balance doing the right thing with doing what’s expected of him, he’s a wonderfully human character.

9. Dexter - He’s pretty much the anti-alpha male, but like the other’s on my list he does what he feels is right. Brilliant character – if you haven’t watched the show or read the books, treat yourself.

10. Apollo - He won’t cheat and she won’t divorce. Poor Apollo is the only man out there who can match Starbuck blow for blow. Another character with a high sense of family commitment, he tries to do what’s best in stressful times.

11. The Beast - I think most little girls wanted to be Beauty when they were growing up. We’d all like to change our wounded hero into the handsome prince. I’m a sucker for this plot line and find myself playing with variations of it all the time in my writing.

12. Spike - I preferred Spike to Angel. Better abs. J

13. Captain Kirk - Whether you like Star Trek or not, you have to give a nod to Kirk’s character. He really set the stage for all future space captains, either to model after or try to be the opposite. He was fun to watch and there was never any doubt that Kirk would work things out in the end.

Me and a Mac Truck

Only a short post today I’m afraid. The flu that has been going around my family has finally hit me. I’m feeling better than I did this morning, but I’m still pretty icky. Depending on how things go, I’m going to try and get a bit of writing done tonight, but I’m keeping my expectations low. I’m also going to try and come up with my Thursday Thirteen tonight. If my brain wants to work that is. :)

I hope everyone else is feeling well today!

Visiting Old Friends

I haven’t really looked at Perfect Match since the end of October. I’d managed about 130 pages before I stopped and flipped over to All Bottled Up. Yesterday, I sat down and took a look at it for the first time and had to cringe. I like the premise still, but boy do I have my work cut out for me.

That said, I was able to come to several key realizations about the plot and now have some ways to fix the issues I was having. I’ve plowed through the first chapter and am going to tackle chapter two tonight.

I also realized that I need to change the physical description of my hero. I didn’t clue in at the time, but I borrowed quite heavily from this hero (Ben) when I described my genie (Jerod). As Jerod is perfect (and very yummy) the way he is, poor Ben is going to go from black to brown hair, and from blue to brown eyes. Poor Ben.

Welcome to my new blog!

Heart       I’m so excited about my new blog and my new site! I’m still learning how to use WordPress, so please be patient with me for the next few days.

I want to have a special shout out to ML from Moonglade Designes who did such an awesome job building my site. She’s been wonderful to work with, and very patient with me. :)
